Would you like to know more about Motivation? We hope the answers to these FAQs helps;
What is motivation?
Motivation is the desire to achieve a goal combined with the energy to work towards that goal. It is the characteristic required in order to achieve anything in life, without it, people give up at the first sign of adversity.
How can setting goals and objectives help me feel more motivated?
People who have clear and focused objectives in both their work and personal life are normally motivated people. In fact, studies have proved that these people achieve more, have a more positive outlook and enjoy life to the full. On our Motivation courses we make sure you have a good system for goal setting. Be careful though - don't bite oiff more than you can chew! Yes, your objectives should be challenging but they also need to be achievable, realistic and in some way measurable. That way, you'll have
more control over them and you'll whether or not each one has been completed on time.
I'm continually being interrupted during the day. This wastes so much of my time that it really frustrates and demotivates me. Do you cover this on your Motivation courses?
Having the ability to manage interruptions is essential if you want to take control of your own life. On our Motivation course you'll learn how to identify which interruptions are 'fair' and to be expected during the normal course of your work and which interruptions are 'unfair' and therefore wasting your time. We call people who interrupt you unfairly 'Time Robbers' because that's exactly what they are. Dealing with them isn't difficult. We'll make sure you can eradicate 'Time Robbers' and live life on
yout terms rather than theirs.
Realistically, is it ever possible to have a satisfactory work/life balance? I think this is why I'm demotivated - I just work too hard.
You're right to ask 'realistically' because being realistic about your work/life balance is they key to achieving it. Some people wish forever that they don't have to go to work - this, in most cases, is unrealistic. Most people do have to go to work. You are probably one of these people. On our Motivation courses you get a chance to reflect constructively on your work/life balance as it is now. If you're not happy with it, we'll give you some great ideas that will help you to achieve a better balance. It's
amazing how your attitude to life, your personal enjoyment, your motivation levels and your personal effectiveness can improve - simply by adjusting some small elements of your personal and work life.
Is confidence that important with regard to motivation?
Having self-confidence is essential if you want to feel more motivated. Motivate people tend to be confident people. Confidence doesn't necessarily mean shouting and being the life and soul of the party - it means having the inner confidence to achieve what you want to achieve. You need a focus though so that you have some direction in your life. Our Motivation courses cover this.
Why are some people more confident than others?
There is no doubt that some people appear more confident than others. For instance, some people are naturally more confident standing up and speaking in front of a group of people or perhaps chairing a meeting. For other people, the idea of being the centre of attention fills them with absolute fear and dread. We are all different but the main thing to remember is that EVERYONE can do it - it's just easier for some than others. You gain confidence by putting yourself outside your comfort zone and seeing others
react positively to you. This makes you feel good and increases your self-belief. Our Motivation courses give you the chance to have a go and practise with the guidance and feedback of a professional facilitator in a non-threatening (and fun!) environment where everyone is in the same position.
I tend to see the glass as half empty, rather than half full. Does this really matter in terms of motivation?
Yes, this really does matter. Talking and thinking positively is an essential element of self-motivation. How do you answer when people ask you how you are? Are you a person who answers 'Not bad' every time (even when in fact you are having a good day). Motivated people never answer 'Not bad'. They answer 'Good thanks ... how about you?' Try this. You'll be surprised at what a difference it makes. We cover this on our Motivation courses.
